Marriage Enrichment Project - March 2016

Our March Marriage Enrichment Project could possibly be the most beautiful one yet! The blush and gold with all of the greenery was perfect, as well as all of the breathtaking lighting and draping.

As always, our Chef Michael made us a meal that was to die for! We served a variety of scrumptious hors d'oeuvres before the buffet started to allow our brides and grooms to have some options to choose from.  Our buffet hosted an array of cuisine to taste, from the fish eater to the vegetarian, everyone left with an empty belly!  Chef Michael even made sure to incorporate food for one of our brides who has an allergy to certain foods (how sweet!).

As for vendors, we can thank Ambient Sky for our beautiful pictures here.  We had beautiful string music performed by Duo Con Brio to start the event and Anthony, with A Sound Choice, finished off with the professional DJ skills.  Jennifer, with Forte Floral, provided the stunning floral arrangements for the tables.  And, of course, His Bakery prepared delicious treats and showed off their artistic abilities with the naked cake.  Haywards Decorations contributed their elegant floor-length linens, gold chiavari chairs, and uplighting to really make the room pop!

Everyone loved our speaker, Pastor John Rosensteel, who talked about the importance of knowing how to "fight" with your spouse.  It was very important advice for our soon-to-be newlyweds.  It was an enjoyable evening and we look forward to next month's!

Marriage Enrichment Project - May 21st, 2015

Our final Marriage Enrichment Project of the season was wonderful! The food was delicious as always, thanks to Executive Chef Michael.  From the angel hair pasta to the delectable Alaskan wild salmon, everything was scrumptious down to the last bite!

For this Marriage Enrichment, we had the dance floor out again because it was such a hit in March.  Encore Mobile DJs brought many couples out to the floor to teach them the Wobble dance and they had a blast doing it!  On of their DJs even go out and did some break dancing for us!

The Grand Ballroom was motivated by the stunning centerpieces provided by A Floral Affair.  Our aim was to stick with neutrals and throw in some coral in the floral and the menu cards for a nice pop of color.  We used tope and white chevron runs from Barclay Event Rentals with our sandalwood napkins.

We also had Ambient Sky attend to talk to the couples about photography and videography, and Amanda snapped all of these remarkable pictures for us while there. His Bakery was the favorite part of the night, like always, thanks to their delicious cake.  Shanin Engman was our guest speaker for the night and talked to our couples about the importance of dating while married so we think they took away some great knowledge! And for a fun surprise, we had Holly & Ingo with Konect Aviation come out to talk about the helicopter sendoffs and the couples actually got to watch them fly away in the helicopter at the end of the night!  It was great for them to be able to do more than just picture it in their minds.  And we had The Aerie limousine in the circle drive for the couples to check out as well.

The night was a smashing success and the weather was perfect to have the wall-of-windows wide open to showcase how it will look this summer!

Marriage Enrichment Project - March 19th, 2015

Our Marriage Enrichment Project is an in-house event that we most four times a year for our booked brides and grooms.  These events include a mini tasting of our Executive Chef Michael's choices to help our couples become confident that no matter what Chef Michael cooks it will be delicious!  We also show off all of our Added Touches that are for rent, such as the Twinkle Lighting, Ballroom Beam Draping, Arborvitae Lighting, and much more.  We also bring in some of our preferred vendors to talk to our couples about any other wedding needs they may have, from photography to DJ services.

This Marriage Enrichment was even more fun than usual because we had our brand new dance floor out for brides and grooms to try out so we could get some feedback to whether they like it or not.  We had a few people, including some of our staff, take advantage of the dance floor with the DJ playing their favorite songs.

The Grand Ballroom was inspired by beautiful spring floral arrangements brought in by Flowers Exclusively by Wendy.  We used turquoise table runners, with the head table having a patterned runner, from Barclay Event Rentals and blush napkins.  Haywards Decorations provided their beautiful ivory chair covers for the head table with their pink organza sashes tied by a diamond wraps.  We had our beam drapes and twinkle lights accentuating the beauty of our rustic ceiling beams.  Event Team Entertainment was a blast, as usual, and brought along their photo booth for a take-home memento from the night.  Becca Blevins Photography and His Bakery also gracious enough to come talk to our couples about their services.

Our Marquee Tent was looking better than ever with the help of Haywards and Flowers Exclusively by Wendy! We had a very simple and elegant back drop for the ceremony set up and Wendy brought in some beautiful arrangements that double as centerpieces or hanging chair arrangements.

We had a great time and we hope everyone that attended did as well!

Bridal Open House 2015

The Aerie Bridal Open House was a success!  Thank you to all brides and grooms, as well as their families, who came to visit us.  It was a delight to get to meet new brides and grooms and to also catch up with our already booked couples.

We decided to mix our Open House with one of our bi-monthly Marriage Enrichment Project events.  Couples were able to do a small tasting of hors d ‘oeuvres and enjoying meeting some of our preferred vendors. The Grand Ballroom was showcased our twinkle lighting with our white lanterns. The floral centerpieces brought in by Forte Floral gave a nice pop of olive to go with our gold organza table runners.  The Open House was a great chance to get to show off our whole venue to multiple people at a time, while also providing inspiration to our booked couples for their upcoming weddings.

We gave a great example of a head table setup with our draping behind the table and up lighting, provided by A Sound Choice, on each side of the drapes.  We again used the elegant bronze, silver, and gold candleholders as great accents for the table along with the gold chargers used at the Bridal Show.

We had a great time and we hope you did too!

Portland Bridal Show 2015

The Portland Bridal Show was so much fun! Thank you to all the brides and grooms who came to visit us at The Oregon Convention Center on the 17th and 18th. It was a delight to get to meet all of you and talk about your upcoming weddings!

Our favorite part of the show was how many people loved our head table setup and took pictures as inspiration for their own weddings! This soft blend of ivory and golds has been a 2015 wedding trend recently, since it’s a mixture of warm, romantic lighting with a hint of Hollywood bling with the golds and bronzes.  We also added a technological component to our booth this year by adding two 70" Smart Televisions that played two separate slideshows of our beautiful venues and catering, which was great for really showing off who we are and what we do.

We used a very similar setup as last year and kept our goal of creating a booth that reflected the famous wooden beam architecture and soft chandeliers featured in The Aerie’s Grand Ballroom. The head table showcased ivory linens with a gold and ivory patterned table runner. Each place setting displayed gold chargers under our white china wrapped with a deep chocolate brown ribbon.  On each plate, we placed a white box with gold ribbon as the favors. The multiple levels of table décor with the soft touch of white LED candles really gave a nice elegant look.  Jennifer with Forte Floral helped us pull together the table with the beautiful centerpieces.  Along the head table below you will see her mercury vases filled with draping organic greenery of seeded eucalyptus and rosemary, lush and full white hydrangeas, elegant white flowers and lots of texture in each arrangement; giving the head table a romantic yet sophisticated look.

The lights under the table really made our head table glow, especially during the fashion show with the lights off!

As our final touch, the chocolate fountain again provided by our incredible in-house catering team was a huge hit, of course! Who doesn’t love chocolate?  We hope you enjoyed our inspiring booth as much as we did and we look forward to having you out for a tour soon!

Portland Bridal Show 2014: Our Fusion of Natural Glamour

The Portland Bridal Show was a great success! Thank you to all the brides and grooms who came to visit us at The Oregon Convention Center earlier this month. It was a joy to talk with so many of you about your dream weddings in our Portland venue space, which offers a variety of indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception options!

What we loved most: the amount of photos that were taken at our booth, accompanied with the “oohs” and “aahs” of eager brides grasping that moment where Pinterest suddenly became their attainable wedding reality. We are so glad you found inspiration in our gold, cream and natural combinations. This glamorous and natural fusion is a huge 2014 wedding trend right now, as it combines our mother’s 80s heritage with the glorious outdoors and timeless (and ever-faithful) use of soft, dreamy whites.

Our goal was to create a booth that reflected the famous wooden beam architecture and soft chandeliers featured in The Aerie’s Grand Ballroom. By creating an inspiring head table, placed beautifully beneath a wooden structure and soft draping, the elegance of The Aerie came to life! The head table showcased ivory linens with a gold, polka dot table runner. Each place setting displayed gold flatware, a glass charger with gold, beaded trim, and ivory china wrapped with a sequin napkin. Atop each plate, we placed a natural brown box with raffia ribbon and a sprig of rosemary. The additional soft touch of white candles, white hydrangeas and roses and the natural green of eucalyptus seed branches were the perfect, supporting cast to the leading roles: gold and sequins.

The glitter of the napkin and the natural rosemary herb

brought life to our glamorous & neutral fusion!

Gold touches were strategically scattered throughout the display with our twig trees, gold-wrapped candies on the buffet table, gold napkins, and gold up-lighting throughout! We wanted to make sure these ever-so-inspirational gold and neutral tones continuously caught the viewer’s eye for consistency, as well as to give a warm feel throughout the booth.

As our final touch, the chocolate fountain provided by our incredible in-house catering team was a huge hit, of course! Who doesn’t love chocolate? Okay. We do know there are a few of you non-chocolateers out there… and we are here for you, too.

We hope you enjoyed experiencing our inspiration of colors, sparkles, soft, neutral touches and —of course— some drops of chocolate.

Check back for our Open House event blog soon – it was a blast!

The Marriage Enrichment Project - Nov. 12, 2013

The Aerie’s Marriage Enrichment Project is an in-house event we now host every other month. Our last Marriage Enrichment Project (MEP) in November was a wonderful event filled with rustic elegance and tasty seasonal selections. The Grand Ballroom was set a-glow by dimmed chandeliers, twinkle lights and gorgeous fall-inspired floral arrangements by A Floral Affair. MEP is important to our staff as we desire to not only help host your personalized and unique wedding celebration, but to help encourage a couple’s preparation to be married. Lots of planning goes into a wedding, and some of that prep should be dedicated to preparing to be husband and wife!

We love everything about marriage and weddings here at The Aerie, and thus the Marriage Enrichment Project has continued to be one of our favorite in-house events. It is a night of meeting The Aerie staff, experiencing excellent Portland vendors, enjoying a mini-tasting of the menu and hearing from professional speakers about marriage and relationship.

Inspiration for November’s event came from the glory of the Oregon fall season. If you’re an Oregonian, you love the fall. If you don’t, you probably moved here from some really nice and sunny state…

{We love the fall}

We wanted the floral arrangements to reflect the warmth of fall, using orange, yellow and cream colors. And of course we added a touch of moss … because, why not?

{color color color}

We chose our Signature Orange cloth napkins for this event, wanting to reflect the orange and coral tones in the floral arrangements. Framed menus sat at each table, showcasing the night’s tasting, with our MEP emblem sporting the same orange — of course! The napkins sat in a cummerbund fold, with s’mores favors at the head of each plate (visit page 8 of our Aerie E-Brochure to experience our rustic space, The Cave, where guests were encourage to use their s’mores!). We chose to place the “Thank You” note in a chevron envelope to incorporate a pattern, as well as reflect the decorative tissue in the bottom of each s’more package.

Nothing says “sweetheart” like a sweetheart table, right? We set up an example of what a bride and groom’s sweetheart table could look like, using rustic elements of a gold salad plate, burlap runner and brown paper ribbons for aesthetics.

The night was a blast! We are grateful for our beautiful couples, as well as their family and friends who attended. It was a joy to see familiar faces and meet some new ones. Our event was captured by a local Portland wedding photographer, Nakalan McKay.

Straight from The Aerie's Kitchen

Easter weekend is often synonymous with large, family gatherings and food.  For many, "The Easter Menu" reflects the beginning of a new season, where spring inspires lighter dishes.  The dense, rich flavors of winter take a back seat to fresh and flavorful, marinated and grilled.  Perhaps you’re hosting a meal this weekend or are signed up to bring a tasty treat to a loved one’s get together.  Regardless, we are honored to share a few must-try recipes, directly from The Aerie’s own Executive Chef, Michael Quijano.  Inspired by spring and infused with his culinary passion, enjoy the following with compliments of the Chef!

Roasted Pineapple & Carrot Salad

1 lb. Shredded Carrots                   1 lb. Dark Raisins                        1 Whole Pineapple

1 ½ cups Sour Cream                     Sugar (to taste)                          3 tbsp. Grape Seed Oil

1 tbsp. Lemon Juice (Real Lemon Juice)

Peel the pineapple, remove and discard the core.  Dice into ½ inch cubes.  Once done, put the cubes into a mixing bowl and add 2 tablespoons of grape seed oil and mix together.  Place a sauté pan on medium heat until it gets hot.  Add the pineapple-oil mix to the pan (Important to note:  The pineapple releases water, which when combined with oil, will increase the smoke and fire height in the pan.  As a precaution, remove the pan from the heat and add the mix away from the burner.  Once the ingredients settle, return the mix to the burner and cook until pineapple is roasted).  Add the remaining oil if needed and drain all juices from the pan.  When the pineapple is cooked, let it rest and cool.  To finish, mix all remaining ingredients together and add sugar to taste.
